Electrical Power Distribution System

Generation, Transmission and Distribution systems are the main components of electrical power system. Generating stations and distribution systems are connected through transmission lines.

Load Curves

The objective of any power system is to generate electrical energy in sufficient quantities at the best suited locations and to transmit it to the various load centers and distribute it to the various consumers maintaining the quality and reliability at an economic price.

The Load Curve is a plot of the load demand versus the time in the chronological order.

Vapor Power Systems

The components of four alternative vapor power plant configurations are:

1. Fossil-fuel vapor power plant

2. Nuclear vapor power plant

3. Solar thermal vapor power plant

4. Geothermal power plant

A key difference among these plants is the origin of the energy required to vaporize the working fluid.

Steam Generators

Steam Generators or also known as Boilers are closed vessel made of steel alloy in which water is converted into steam by application of heat in container.

Classifications

Fire Tube Boiler: The hot combustion gases pass through the boiler tubes, which are surrounded by water.

Water Tube Boiler: A boiler in which the water flows through a number of small tubes which are surrounded by hot combustion.

Diesel Electric Power Plant

Diesel Engine

The Diesel Engine is a prime mover. It gets its energy from fuel. This energy is converted to mechanical work. An alternator or DC generator is mechanically coupled to the Diesel engine. The mechanical energy is converted to electrical energy with the help of alternator or DC generator.
